Nease’s Needlework is offering several classes this month, Christina Dondero will be teaching the beginning Knitting Class at which you will learn to knit a hat, Emily Berg is teaching a class on how to make a new bag out of all those plastic grocery bags you have laying around (incidentally this is also a knitting class!) and coming in May they are offering a class on Crewel Work Embroidery. For more information about the shop or offered classes check out their website ; http://www.neasesneedlework.com/index.php (sorry I keep posting links this way, it appears that the internal link system in word press is broken at the moment. When they fix it I’ll come back and fix these)

New Spot to Showcase Your Work April 4, 2008

A new Canadian-based craft site, iCraft.ca, looks like it’s going to be another contender in the online craft marketplace. If you register before March 31st, iCraft’s going to waive all fees for an entire year. After March 31st, their pricing structure still seems reasonable. It’s $25 (Canadian) to start, no charge for up to 5 items. There are varying levels of membership for over 5 items, topping out at 40 items for $35/mo, with the option of paying more per month per item. It’s not cheap to list, and the membership fee of $25 would probably discourage just anyone from signing up. And there are no comissions taken from the sales.

One good thing I’ve noticed is that there is a place to set the currency displayed - since it’s geared to be an international site. The costs of items is converted to the currency you choose.

The signup process to sell is rather painless, but it doesn’t look secure (no https…). I’ve contacted the folks at iCraft to ask about their security policies. I’ll let you know what I find out.

The Periodic Table Printmaking Project April 4, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — amyjpapa @ 11:10 pm
The Periodic Table Printmaking Project is a great science-y printmaking experience that took place last year, and has now been featured in the Etsy Storque. Many printmakers of all levels, styles, and techniques contributed a different element to the project, which may continue on as a museum show, book, or other incarnation. I contributed the element Cadmium to it, and was so impressed with all of the the hard work the organizer AzureGrackle put into this project. If you are interested in learning more visit the Storque article or the Periodic Table Printmaking Project.

Druid Hills Artist Market

The Druid Hills Artist Market will be on April 18 and 19 from 10-5 and Sunday April 20 from 1-5 pm. Unfortunatly the sign up date for booths was March 1st, but this might be a good opourtunity for next year. If anyone attends please tell us about your experiance.

Here’s an excerpt from their web site…

Located in the historic Stonehenge Mansion at 1410 Ponce de Leon Avenue, now home of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the 2008 Market will have expanded space from the 2007 Market. Approximately 40 artists, many from the Druid Hills neighborhood, will be represented in numerous mediums including paintings in oils, watercolors, and acrylics; jewelry; pottery; photography; new and vintage textile art. Artist Market dates and hours coincide with the Druid Hills Home and Garden Tour on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday, April 20, from 1:00 until 5:00 PM.

Proceeds from the Market benefit the Druid Hills neighborhood, Frederick Law Olmsted’s best preserved residential suburb, by supporting all aspects of historic preservation including contributing to the preservation and development of green spaces in this renowned National Register district. Admission to the Artist Market is free.”
